Wisdom at Creation
Pretty well anyone with any type of loose Christian upbringing can recite the opening verses of Genesis, recounting the creation story:
"In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth...." ~ Genesis 1:1
And from there, many lectures, sermons, writings have speculated what (if anything) may have existed or happened previous to Genesis 1:1.
So, this morning, as I was casually reading through Proverbs Chapter 8; I uncovered such a statement. The chapter begins in referencing "wisdom"
"Does not wisdom cry out?"
And everything subsequently after that, is a reference to wisdom. So, if you have a moment, skim verses 22 thru 31 as the writer unfolds the creation story, he states that wisdom exists beforehand:
"I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was an earth." ~ Proverbs 8:23
Before there were waters, springs to drink from or seas to keep within boundaries; before there were creatures, mountains, and soil.
And as we read down further we discover that wisdom, took part in creation But another verse also stood out from this passage:
"I (wisdom) was daily God's delight, rejoicing before Him always, rejoicing in His inhabited world, delighting in the human race." ~ Proverbs 8:31
It's easy for many of us to look around at the chaos and evil of the day and become disgraced by humanity. But this would've also been true of the writer of Proverbs in his day, and yet, he still claims that God "delighted in the human race." Can you sit back, and for a moment imagine a God, dancing with delight over His creation of mankind? God loved (s) His creation; and proved that by sacrificing Himself on the cross.
It truly is an incredible story from "before the beginning"... to the end.
